Parents/Guardians,

Thank you to Mrs. O’Shea and Ms. Ciccarelli for preparing last Sunday’s Mass with the 2nd and 7th grade students. Our students did a wonderful job reading and participating in the Mass. Our next family Mass will be held on Sunday, May 20.

St. Bruno school families raised $581.47 through the Rice Bowls Lenten collection. Thank you for your generosity and support of this project.

Tomorrow, Thursday, April 26 is our annual $1 dress down for Cancer. Please see the flyer in today’s envelope for more details

Fiesta 2012

Tickets are still available for our yearly Fiesta Fundraiser this Saturday, April 28. Come join us for a wonderful evening of fun, food, and dancing. If you are available to help out and/or still need some fundraising hours, please contact the office.

Bingo

Friday night bingo is a huge fundraiser for us. Approximately $85,000 goes towards the school’s annual budget. This helps offset the real cost of educating each child. In order for bingo to be successful, it is extremely important that our school parents volunteer throughout the year, but especially during the summer months. Hours worked will go towards your fundraising fees. If you are able to work more than the required 20 hours, please contact me. Hours worked from April 15 will count towards next year’s fundraising. Please complete the form in today’s envelope indicating your ability to volunteer at bingo. Again, bingo is a fundraiser that we cannot afford to do without.

3rd Grade

Thank you to the Communicants and their families who participated in last week’s Agape Service. The students did an amazing job presenting the story of the Last Supper. I am sure we have many proud parents, too. Also, a big thank you to Ms. Rasinski and Ms. Baiter for preparing the students and organizing the service and to Mrs. Podlasek, Ms. Guillen, Mrs. Martinez, Mrs Diaz, and Mrs. Mendoza for their help in organizing and setting up for the service.

Earth Week

As we celebrate Earth Week in school, don’t forget to dispose of broken/old computer equipment in an Earth friendly way by donating them to the school. All proceeds are going towards our iPad fund. Also, send in your old newspapers for our paper contest.

During this week there are many activities going on in the classrooms including;

PreK – Earth Day discussion focusing on appreciation for our planet earth and how to take care of it, reading Earth Day related books, creating a pretend pond for students to learn about pollution, growing grass plants in Earth friendly “pots” (egg shells), and growing seeds collected from the Pumpkin Patch field trip.

K & 1 - .Read books on caring for the Earth watching video: Garbage and Recycling
making an Earth Day Book, coloring posters, and planting in a recycled container (can or milk carton)

2nd Grade – plant flowers, display how the greenhouse works, word searches, growing butterflies, making a display about recycling, learn environmental and Earth Day related words, reading books and watching short films on the causes of pollution, and making a pledge (bucket list) of things to do for the earth before the end of the school year.

3rd – 5th Grade – earth day art project to learn about landfills and the dangers they pose to the earth. Each student will be assigned a state, and they will create that state using all recycled and used materials brought from home or materials provided by the teachers. Together, all three grades will create the United States out of recycled and reused/unwanted materials.

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Tomorrow, Holy Thursday evening marks the beginning of the Easter Triduum. This is the holiest time of the year in the Catholic Christian calendar. On the back of this letter we have added a schedule of parish activities and Masses for your reference. Help support what your children have been learning in the classroom by attending and participating in the Holy Week and Easter liturgies.

Congratulations to our 3rd grade Communicants who received the Sacrament of Reconciliation Saturday past. Also, thank you to Ms. Rasinski and Ms. Baiter for preparing the students and planning the service.

Early Dismissal

Note: we will dismiss tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. Students who are going to Extended Day must bring a lunch. School will resume Monday, April 16. Have a safe and joyous Easter break!

Summer School

We are not quite at the number that we need for Summer School; however I am hopeful that a few more families will sign up before it starts. So, we will go ahead with our plans. Summer School will run for six from June 18 – July 28. Parents can choose which weeks they would like to have their children attend whether it is 1 week or the whole 6. There is also a ½ day option and discounts for multiple children. If you would like to sign up, please call or stop by the office to pick up the forms. You can also download the form from the website.

Outstanding Fundraising Fees

Note: You can still pay any outstanding fundraising fees by purchasing monthly Raffle tickets from the Office. All tickets and payments need to be returned by Tuesday, May 1 in order to be in May’s drawing.

Clean-up Day – Volunteers needed

Next Friday, April 13 from 9:00 -12:0pm, St. Bruno in coordination with Starbucks will hold a spruce up or clean up day. From this joint venture, we will receive a monetary donation from Starbucks to go towards the playground maintenance fund. We will be purchasing new mulch and plant for the gardens. If you are available, please meet in the playground @9:00a.m.

Charity Mania Winners

Congratulations to all the Hoops Mania winners. The $100 winner is Juan Herrera. Each of the following are $10 winners; Valerie Badillo, Violet Badillo, Dana Butler, Maria Ovalle, Avelina Ramirez, Fred Cruz, Rocio Contreras, Adelaida Contreras, Fred Cruz, Alice Szkodzinski, Juan Herrera (2)and Patricia Herrera. If you are a St. Bruno parent, please let us know if you would like a check or if you want to apply winnings to tuition/fundraising/Extended Day. We will mail checks to friends of families.

Parent Survey

Thank you to those parents who completed a Parent Survey during the Parent/Teacher Conferences. I have read through them and will share them with the School Board during April’s meeting. In the meantime, to address the area of technology, the staff would like to share how they use technology in their classroom. As well as receiving instruction via the weekly computer lab classrooms, each classroom teacher fully integrates technology into their lessons throughout the school day. Please look for and read the Technology flyer in today’s envelope. Hopefully, this will answer some of the concerns expressed in the surveys. I think many of you will be amazed at just how much technology is used and what our students are learning during lab time.
