Teacher's Qualifications

The faculty and staff of St Bruno School meet State and Office of Catholic Schools requirements for their positions.  All of our teachers participate in regular and on-going professional development to learn current and better ways to support learning for children.

A significant number of our teachers hold or are enrolled in classes for the master degree. The administrator holds a B.Sc in Education, a M.A in Leadership and a State certificate for school administration (K- 12)

Curriculum

St. Bruno School offers a rigorous academic curriculum within a caring Catholic community and school environment. We follow the core curriculum established by the Archdiocese of Chicago, which is aligned with the state and national learning standards. Our academic program includes grades Pre-K through grade 8. Each grade level incorporates content and activities that are developmentally appropriate. Our core-curriculum includes Language Arts, Math, Social Studies and Science.

Faith Formation

Religion is the core of the St. Bruno experience. Our students take daily religion classes that help to broaden their faith base and put into practice their beliefs. Each grade level engages in service projects and worships together as a community in liturgical celebrations at weekly and All School Masses.

Technology
Students receive weekly instruction in our fully networked computer lab. Our students are encouraged to use the lab for research purposes. We currently have two Promethean Activboards that are used to compliment daily instruction.
Art
While supporting the regular classroom content, the art program provides students with the opportunity to creatively explore a variety of media. Community outreach endeavors include poster contests and more.
Library
Our students do much more than just check books in and out of the library. They learn the tools to use the library as a means of resource, reference, and interest.
Physical Education
The weekly physical education program involves students in a wide range of activities and encourages a life-long commitment to physical activity. Students focus on working together as a team and learn the importance of healthy living.
Music
St. Bruno is in the midst of a musical renaissance! The Pre-K -2nd students sing echo songs revolving around the Christian holidays of Christmas & Easter and also Valentines Day, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc. In addition to singing, they play rhythm instruments and circle games. 3rd-6th grade students learn music for Mass (hymns and acclamation) to enable them to participate in sung prayer. 4th-6th grade students are learning to play recorder, which also introduces them to written music notation. All students have an opportunity to perform for other students by singing at Mass or at other performances. In 2012 we had a recorder assembly and a special production of theThree-Piggy Opera starring the 3rd grade. For the upcoming school year, we will expand our musical offerings adding Chorus to the schedule, after-school piano lessons (private 1-on-1 instruction), and a msuic and movement club for PreK students.
