Over sixty 7th and 8th grade students were selected by BFT teachers for their outstanding work to participate in the BFT Honor's Ensemble held at St. Joseph School in Downers Grove.
Students spent the day playing some great music with fellow student musicians and getting excellent instruction from our staff. We had two full band rehearsals, a like instrument sectional, lunch and snacks. Some of the songs we practiced were Malaquena, Chronichles of Narnia, Theme from the movie Batman, and music from the movie "Cars"
We finished the day with an afternoon concert for families and friends. Congratulations to those students selected. Here is a list of students who accepted the honor and performed the day of the event.

180 Students Attend Solo Contest

trophy

Our annual Band For Today solo contest was held  on March 8th in Western Springs. Over 180 students participated. This contest involved students playing a solo before a judge. The students were rated on rated on pitch, rhythm, technique, and presentation. Students did not compete against one another. First, second, and third places will receive either a gold, silver or bronze medal and perfect scores with the solo memorized will receive
an engraved trophy. This was a great way
for students to take a little more responsibility for their own improvement as young musicians. Band For Today will provide a practice CD for all students who sign up. The contest ran between 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. Thank you to St. John of the Cross school for hosting this event.

Music Helps Self  Image

Playing in band or orchestra helps in the improvement of self-image.
Sally Katsch, of the National Association of Music Therapy, says that
"playing an instrument directly affects a sense of  creativity, accomplishment and self-esteem."
Research tells us that students who stay in ensembles develop work habits that can lead to greater efficiency in academics and personality growth.
